What People Say

This book clearly and simply describes how a person can walk humbly with Christ. It gives you a clear understanding of the Sin of Self and how this keeps us on the broad path of destruction leading us to death. If you are looking for a practical book on living a life for Christ this is it! This book is basically hours of Christian counseling. The good work God has for us to do is learning to be humble and letting Christ rule on the throne of our hearts! This book helps reveal pride in our heart at a deeper level. Reading this book and taking a deeper DIVE into God’s WORD will bring healing into your heart. This would be an excellent book to read with another man. Churches should have this book available as a resource. As a wife I read it truly inspired in a new way to be the helper God created me to be to my husband. It is a book intended for a man to read but as a woman I got MUCH out of it. The sin of PRIDE and self-righteousness is a problem for both genders!

This book is an outstanding portrayal of an effective spiritual mentoring relationship between two Christian men. The literary style employing a sequence of conversations between two men in a variety of venues over a period of months provides many examples of how to engage in discussions that produce spiritual growth in both the younger and the older man. The narrative provides numerous examples of how the older man can frame the discussion and how the younger man should try to respond constructively to enhance his spiritual growth. The conversations are replete with solid theological understanding of the teachings of the Bible. Many connections between the Scriptures and our daily life circumstances reveal how down to earth the Bible is for our daily lives.... I highly recommend this book to any Christian man who is contemplating becoming a guide or mentor for a younger Christian.

Loved It!
The world needs more men. Wait, let me clarify that statement. The world needs more Christian men. We do not simply need more adult males but rather we need Christian men that take their faith to heart and allow it to guide their everyday life. The issue is that there are many that do not hold to the same sincerity as is needed. As a result, there is a large gap between what is needed and what is being met. This book sets out to fill the gap with a set of fresh eyes. I enjoyed the meandering of the faith journey of Ethan and Jonathan through this book. I recognize that this is a bit of a different book than most books written to men. It is part fiction, part devotion, and part academic work. The ability to interweave those genres and produce a valuable read is a great talent. I enjoyed the fact that right out of the gate we see the emphasis of walking through life together. Far too often men like to struggle through life alone and are missing out on not only a blessing but becoming more like Christ. We operate best in community. The other idea that is stressed throughout the writing by Synstelien is the notion of stewardship. So often people view things through the lens of blessings, which is fair, but stewardship is usually a better word. As followers of Christ we are called to steward our time, our vocation, and every other portion of our life and we are called to help lead our community and family in stewarding the things God has given them as well. If men would lead well, the world would be a better place. If you consider yourself a follower of Christ, I feel like you would benefit from this book. I believe it is one that is suited for men regardless of their age. I am thankful that this book exists and hope to help get it into as many sets of hands as possible.
